Welcome to The Grateful Desert Journal
Reflections on Ayurveda, Yoga, Herbalism & Embodied Living in the Mojave Desert
Welcome.
The Grateful Desert Journal is a space for reflection, inquiry, education, and community-centered learning rooted in the living traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda and inspired by the ecology of the Mojave Desert.
This journal was created as an extension of the work unfolding through Grateful Desert Holistic Wellness — a place where philosophy becomes practice, and where daily life itself becomes a field for observation, relationship, healing, and meaningful connection.
Here you will find writings, practices, seasonal reflections, and educational resources exploring topics such as:
- Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy
- Nervous system regulation
- Seasonal and sensory living
- Yoga philosophy & the Yoga Sūtra
- Herbalism & aromatics
- Somatic movement & breath practices
- Desert ecology & embodied awareness
- Community learning and contemplative practice
The intention of this space is not simply to offer information, but to support integration — practical ways of engaging with the rhythms of the body, mind, environment, and everyday life.
The word grateful has always carried deep meaning within this work. Gratitude, in practice, is not passive optimism. It is a relational process of paying attention: to the body, to the breath, to community, to the changing seasons, and to the subtle intelligence present within the natural world.
The Mojave Desert offers continual invitation into this kind of awareness.
Its vastness teaches spaciousness.
Its cycles teach adaptation.
Its stillness teaches listening.
In many ways, this journal is an ongoing conversation between these landscapes — internal and external — and the practices that help us move through them with greater steadiness, clarity, and care.
Whether you are arriving here as a student, client, collaborator, fellow practitioner, or simply a curious reader, I’m grateful you are here.
May this space support reflection, connection, and the cultivation of practices that nourish meaningful well-being.
With gratitude,
Amanda B’Hymer
